Exterior Paint Inspiration: Real Project Transformations from Davis Painting

Side-by-side comparison of a house before and after exterior painting; left shows the house in a dull gray, while the right shows the same house in a vibrant coral color, with the text “Exterior Paint Inspiration: Real Project Transformations.”.
Davis Painting spiced up this warehouse in Berks County, PA with a fresh paint job.

Sometimes the best way to imagine what new exterior paint could do for your house is to see what it’s done for someone else’s!

Over the past year we’ve worked on a range of properties across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Projects include commercial properties, small cottages, working barns, shore houses, churches, and modern suburban homes.

Each one brought a vision to life!

Fairytale Cottage Bungalow: Yellow Brick Beauty in Bucks County

A tan brick house with two dormer windows, a dark gray roof, attached garage, and a central chimney, surrounded by green grass, plants, and trees under a partly cloudy sky.

This charming cottage-style bungalow in Bucks County looks straight out of a storybook! We painted the brick a soft yellow and paired it with a deep green front door. The chimney and window accents were finished in a muted gray, which helped balance the brightness of the yellow without dulling the personality of the home. The results feel warm and inviting without becoming overly playful.

Painting Brick the Right Way

Brick isn’t like siding or wood. It’s porous, meaning moisture moves through it constantly. If the wrong paint or prep work is used, moisture can get trapped inside the masonry and cause long-term damage.

Before any paint went on this home we:

  • Power washed the entire exterior
  • Allowed the brick to fully dry (this can take up to two days)
  • Applied a masonry primer designed specifically for brick
  • Used breathable paint so moisture can still escape

The yellow brick, green door, and gray accent combination creates a cottage aesthetic that pairs beautifully with our Cottage Charm and Rustic design palettes. Barn Transformation: From Green to Baby Blue and White

This new color scheme on this barn immediately brightened the property and made it more eye catching from the road.

Agricultural buildings deal with conditions that most homes never deal with so it’s important that they are treated differently when it comes to paint.

Barn Painting Comes With Its Own Challenges

Temperature swings in Pennsylvania and New Jersey alone can be brutal. Add in moisture, UV exposure, dust, and animal activity and paint has to work much harder.

Before repainting a barn we:

  • Clean every surface thoroughly
  • Repair damaged boards
  • Sand rough areas
  • Prime the wood properly
  • Apply multiple coats designed for agricultural structures

One of our proudest barn projects was painting Ashford Farms in Conshohocken, PA. Fun fact: their property was featured in the 2026 Super Bowl commercial with Jason Kelce! Barn painting requires specialized knowledge and materials to withstand Pennsylvania and New Jersey’s demanding climate.

Deck and Stairs Refresh: Ocean City, PA Outdoor Living

Collage showing a worn, gray outdoor staircase labeled "before," and the same staircase freshly painted white, labeled "after," with the text "STAIRS REFRESH" and an arrow highlighting the transformation.

Outdoor spaces tend to get put on the backburner until the wood starts splintering or turning gray.

After cleaning, sanding, and refinishing the wood, this deck & stairs looked like new.

Decks, especially in a beach town, require specific preparation and products to withstand foot traffic, furniture weight, moisture exposure, and UV damage. Preparation is critical when staining a deck, and proper technique ensures lasting protection.

Deck Restoration Is Mostly About Preparation

A lot of deck coatings fail because the wood wasn’t properly cleaned or prepped beforehand.

For decks and outdoor stairs, we:

  • Remove mold and mildew buildup
  • Sand the boards to eliminate splinters
  • Repair damaged sections
  • Tighten loose fasteners
  • Apply a high-quality exterior wood stain

Our deck restoration process is lengthy and intense because it should be!

Front Door and Trim Transformation: Lansdale, PA Curb Appeal Boost

Not every exterior improvement needs to involve the entire house. A budget friendly way to update your home is by doing smaller, simple projects that are every bit as impactful!

This Lansdale project focused on the front door, pillars, and trim. Those areas naturally draw attention, so refreshing them can change how the entire house feels.

The difference was immediate.

A brick house with white trim features a black front door under a small, covered porch with white columns. Two lantern-style lights are mounted on either side of the door, and neatly trimmed bushes line the walkway.

Add Impact with Power Washing

For maximum impact, add a professional wash with SUDS Power Washing.

Clean siding combined with freshly painted doors, trim, and pillars creates a complete exterior refresh without the expense of painting the entire house.

This approach is perfect for homeowners who want to boost curb appeal on a budget, update their home’s look before selling, or maintain their property between full exterior painting projects. Strategic painting of high-impact areas creates dramatic visual improvement at a fraction of whole-house painting costs.

Garage Door and Trim Update: Functional Meets Beautiful

A standalone garage with a closed, wood-textured brown door. The light-gray exterior walls have a rough stucco finish. A can of paint sits on the ground near the entrance. The garage is surrounded by pavement and greenery.

Garage doors take up a lot of visual space on modern homes, but they’re often overlooked during exterior updates.

This particular project focused on repainting the garage door and surrounding trim so it actually matched the rest of the house instead of looking separate or like an afterthought.

The new finish eliminated fading and peeling while tying the entire exterior color palette together.

Painting Garage Doors Properly

Garage doors collect grime, oil residue, and general buildup over time.

Before painting we:

  • Clean and degrease the entire surface
  • Lightly sand for adhesion
  • Use primers suited to the door material
  • Apply durable exterior coatings that tolerate constant movement

A garage door opens and closes thousands of times over its life. The paint has to move with it.

Cape May Salmon Pink Shore House

Cape May has a long tradition of colorful Victorian homes often referred to as “Painted Ladies.”

Bright colors are a fun part of the town’s character and history.

This particular shore house had been plain white for years when the homeowner decided to lean into Cape May’s historic style and chose a salmon pink exterior. How fun!

A small pink house with white trim and multiple front windows, partially shaded by tree branches above. Lush green bushes and plants grow in front of the house on a sunny day.

Coastal Painting Requires Extra Protection

Homes near the ocean deal with conditions that inland houses don’t have to face. Salt air, humidity, strong sun, and coastal winds all cause paint to breakdown faster.

For coastal properties we focus on:

  • Greater resistance to moisture
  • Better UV protection
  • Protection against mildew and salt exposure

Proper cleaning is especially important. Salt residue has to be completely removed before paint can bond correctly.

At Davis Painting, we serve the entire Jersey Shore coastline, from Cape May to Long Beach Island, understanding the specific painting needs of coastal properties throughout New Jersey’s beach communities.

Church Restoration: Red Doors in Sumneytown, PA

A white church with tall arched stained glass windows, a red double door, and a bell tower against a partly cloudy blue sky. The sign above the door reads "BRETHREN UNION CHURCH." A railing lines the entrance steps.

We recently painted this beautiful church in Sumneytown, PA.

The doors were repainted a rich red that stands out beautifully against the building’s exterior. It immediately brightened the entrance and gave the church a refreshed, welcoming look. For many people, those doors are the first thing they see when they arrive.

Churches are special places to work on. They’re where people gather every week, celebrate important moments in life, and support their neighbors. Being trusted to help maintain those spaces means a lot to our team.

We’re grateful to work with churches and faith communities throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Whether it’s restoring historic details or simply refreshing worn paint, we approach every project with care and respect for the building and the people who use it.

Residential Charm: Two Distinct Styles

Chester County has a mix of styles and two recent projects there showed how paint choices can highlight the variety!

A two-story house with cream brick exterior, dark contrast shutters and roof, and wood pillars on the front porch. Above the house are color swatches labeled Cream Brick, Dark Contrast Shutters, and Wood Pillars.

Cream Brick With Black Shutters

A home in Wayne took a modern approach with a soft cream color while the shutters and trim were finished in black. The combination feels timeless.

A tan stucco house with three windows, trimmed in light beige, next to a stone wall. Green shrubs and bushes grow in front of the house, with tall trees visible in the background under a partly cloudy sky.

Warm Rustic Stone

This home used a warm orange tone. It works well with the stone features of the home and blends well with the trees.

Both houses work beautifully!

A Fresh Look for a Local Business: Freestyle Realty in Royersford

We work often with local commercial businesses to help them freshen up their look for their clients and customers!

This one is the lovely Freestyle Realty in Royersford, PA.

We repainted the exterior a beautiful blue that gives the office a clean, modern look and makes it much more noticeable when you drive by. The color works really well with the building’s style and helps the business feel more visible and inviting to clients.

Projects like this are always fun because the transformation is so immediate. A simple color change can make a commercial space feel fresh again and help a local business put its best foot forward!
